● SKUNK NOTES

In the book cover design works of THE KITE RUNNER, I did not show the “Kite” and “Runner” in the book title figuratively, Instead, I used a slender kite string to connect the two illustrations on the cover and the back. The scenes in two paintings are derived from the story site in the book, Afghanistan, but I symbolize the two story lines in the book through color and subtle changes, the cover shows Afghanistan when the protagonists Amir and Hassan chased kites when they were children, and the back cover shows Afghanistan when Amir was looking for Hassan’s son after the war.

Guiding by the same kite string, two different time-space are connected like comic book, and readers can flip through the illustrations on the back cover under the guidance of the kite string, while making it more interesting, It’s also like embarking on the road of self-redemption with Amir, even if the person who chased kite for him has disappeared in the sand dust forever.

The top of the kite string is connected with the Chinese character “追” ( means “chase” ). In the Chinese translation of the title of the book, “The Kite Runner” has been translated into a closer mean- ing to “the people who chase kite”, so the word “追” has a more intriguing meaning as a kite.
